Described as a 'merger of equals' the boards of GfK Aktiengesellschaft ("GfK")and Taylor Nelson Sofres plc (("TNS") have announced their intention to merge to create a new, market information group to be named GfK-TNS plc. According to the press release http://www.tnsglobal.com/_assets/files/TNS_Market_Research_merger_create_new_force_market-english.pdf issued today (3rd June) the newly-merged company will provide "a compelling offering in syndicated services". GfK is particularly strong in Central and Eastern Europe and this will be complemented by TNS' coverage of Asia Pacific. Gfk-TNS will have operations in 111 countries. Its global head office will be in London, with the German head office in Nurnberg. The merger is, of course, still subject to shareholder approval.About this article
