The latest set of national statistics was released by the UK Statistics Authority http://www.statistics.gov.uk on July 21. These data cover all aspects of UK life from the economy, the labour market, consumer price indices, and statistics of scientific procedures on living animals. A few days earlier data on agriculture, betting and gaming, insurance premium tax and public sector finances were released. Some were only via the Internet, some were issued as Statistical Bulletins, while others appeared in the Monthly Volume, Office for National Statistics. The UK Statistics Authority has recently launched its consultation on a new Code of Practice for Official Statistics alongside a draft Statement of Principles and Procedures for Assessment. The consultation phase lasts until 30 September. The Authority is now subject to The Statistics and Registrations Service Act 2007, which ‘gave the Authority the power to determine a Code of Practice and specific powers to assess the compliance of official statistics against that code.’ The consultation document is called Official statistics serving the public good and contains the draft Code of Practice for Official Statistics and Statement of Principles and Procedures for Assessment. It is available on the Authority’s web site: http://www.statisticsauthority.giv.uk/reports
