A recent Daily Telegraph article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2008/07/25/cnreuters125.xml suggests that Thomson Reuters http://www.thomsonreuters.com will launch a television channel early in 2009. Intended to rival Bloomberg TV and CNBC it is likely to be available on the Internet and via a cable or digital platform. Reuters has been in the TV business before, but that was not the success the company had hoped â whether it will work this time around against the well-established players is uncertain. We wrote earlier this year, VIP-52 (March 2008) and VIP-55 (June 2008), about suggested job cuts following the merger: it seems that some new posts will be created to help develop the TV channel. The company opened a newsroom in New York at the end of July, where the TV channel is scheduled to be based. Some industry commentators are sceptical whether the company really plans to enter this market http://www.paidcontent.org/entry/419-thomson-reuters-aiming-for-a-tv-channel/. The creation of a newsroom could be to support its existing video business.About this article
