The next issue of VIP magazine will contain a review of Mergent Online, http://www.Mergent.com, a suite of information resources on companies and industry sectors designed to enable business and financial research. Mergent Online content includes current and historical data on the 17,000 active and inactive US companies, and 25,000 active and inactive non US companies on its database. Unlike some business information databases it also has an extensive archive of historical annual reports, which again can be difficult to get hold of. Mergent Online is a useful product bringing together a wealth of financial and other company information, which can either be printed or downloaded for further analysis. The customised report feature is particularly useful. Searching is easy and self- explanatory. Content includes EDGAR filings and other published reports and useful equity reports and country profiles. It is a modular product enabling the subscriber to buy as much or a little data as he needs. I found that the service is better, in my view, for US information than for international, but it is a useful first point of call for convenient access to company information which can be difficult to find from a number of sources. Mergent tells us that the user interface is currently being re-designed and the beta version will be available shortly.
