What we learned from reviewing AI tools for news

During the spring of 2025, Jinfo reviewed different AI tools to see how well they work searching for news.
We looked at solutions from “free” AI platforms (ChatGPT and Perplexity) as well as paid solutions (FT and Factiva).
Our research explored their strengths and weaknesses. None of the solutions are perfect.
Our article, “How should information managers respond to the call to use free AI tools for news?” and report, “Can you rely on open-source AI for news? A review of Perplexity and ChatGPT” contain our detailed findings, and this blog reflects on some of our findings.
