The new issue of VIP includes a review of The Deal Pipeline, a subscription-based financial news database, covering topics such as bankruptcies, auctions, M&A activity, private equity and venture capital. Owned by The Deal LLC (http://www.thedeal.com), Pipeline is an amalgamation of its parent company’s five databases, put behind one pay wall to simplify its business model. Access to The Deal.com financial newsletter is still free. The Pipeline is an end-user product, aimed at senior executives in financial services companies and law firms who require relevant and speedy in depth information on deal flow opportunities. In addition to news, there is information on around 40,000 individuals and 90,0000 companies involved in deals, enabling users to monitor their peers and competitors. The Pipeline’s near real-time news is compiled by in-house journalists, with the database’s proprietary data complemented by aggregated news from a variety of US and international quality print and web sources. Users are supported by a strong customer service team, consisting of relationship managers, sales executives and trainers, who are all keen to provide speedy and effective solutions to problems. The Pipeline’s real strength lies in its tabular databases on companies involved in all aspects of dealmaking. Results can be filtered by industry, deal status, advisers and date, with links to businesses providing more detailed company data. There are rankings of firms and individuals involved in bankruptcy cases, with data available up to five years. Despite containing a wealth of information, the Pipeline’s search screen is uncluttered and intuitive to use. At every search stage, subscribers are able to link through to more detailed information. Alerts are easy to set up, with users able to select to receive them twice daily via email, if required. For users on the go, all alerts are viewable from mobile devices. The Deal Pipeline’s data is biased towards the US, however information is provided for 10 other regions worldwide, making this a powerful business development tool for decision makers.
