The June issue of VIP features a product review of MarketResearch.com Profound, the web-based market research procurement platform available by subscription.

In the first quarter of 2012 Profound has significantly beefed up the number of publishers contributing to the service (the figure currently stands at 196) and are currently loading approximately 5000 new reports onto the platform each month. The range of industry sectors and geographies covered is very broad and seems particularly healthy in coverage for the Asia region.

In other recent developments the search engine was enhanced with some useful new features including filters for selecting only the reports with ‘by the section’ pricing, and selecting reports that feature global research.

MarketResearch.com have merged their back-office functions and have a single team working on the taxonomy for both their MarketResearch.com platform and the Profound product which means there is more consistency between the two products.

The Profound customer support, backed up by in-house research specialists, adds a further benefit to the service where they are very keen for customers to use them to verify that a report is the right one for them before they commit to purchasing it.

While they haven’t jumped on the mobile apps bandwagon, Profound has an API which has been developed as a search box to sit on a client intranet or portal. This is combined with an id that can search the platform but not purchase any content. This could be a useful tool to market the service where subscribers will be keen to get full use out of their up-front commitment spend.

Profound continues to be a great tool for mining data from within market research reports and is very straightforward to use. The form of downloads, as pdf files only, is not ideal but is not a huge issue. The requirement to commit up-front to an annual spend is more challenging but weighed against the prohibitive costs of some individual market research reports Profound is still a sound option for many corporate researchers.
