If you love statistics and quantitative data, you need to check out Statista. In my short review of this product I praise the intuitive search and filtering interface, the clean consistent layout of results and the ability to interact with the graphical presentations to obtain the best format for your specific need.

However, as we’re all aware, content is king, at least for a product to be truly useful and for its longevity. Statista doesn’t disappoint. It appears that every industry segment or topic is covered in some manner and with over 18,000 sources aggregated into this single platform, the diversity of topic and types of data available are impressive. Sources include authoritative market research reports, trade publications, scientific journals, government databases and more.

Statista serves over 5,000 customers ranging from corporate business clients and academic institutions to consultants, media agencies, and marketing departments.

Content consists of two primary types, statistics and reports/studies, and covers international aspects of many topics.

The best way to quickly show the diversity of topics is to glance at a few titles pulled very randomly. Some are amazingly nuanced and others are very high level. All are fascinating and useful to someone!

  • Global market share held by smartphone vendors 2009-2013
  • Soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan through 2013
  • Top global rice producers 2011
  • Percentage of households in Europe with internet access 2006-2011
  • Global online games software sales 2008-2017
  • Number of times affluent Americans entertained someone in their home 2012
  • Construction equipment companies market share Europe 2011
  • CO2 emissions in Latin America by sector.

On the report and studies side there are a large number of reports to "kickstart" your research, including Statista Dossiers. These are reports pulling together the 30-50 most important statistics on specific popular topics.

The product has some data available for free but much, much more in a very affordable Premium account. Even more fun is to subscribe to the Chart of the Day which relates to something currently in the area of Media & Technology or Economy & Society and gets sent to your mailbox for your daily dose of stats.

Give it a whirl, you could be browsing around for a long time wondering at what cocktail party or networking event you can dazzle amazed guests with stats such as last weekend’s box office revenue for Brazil or that people in Iceland have more MRIs than those in Canada, but fewer than in the US or Germany. In fact, it provides statistics and reports on such a diversity of topics that it would be hard to imagine Statista not having the information a user needed!
