Abstract

Thomson Reuters Compliance Complete is a regulatory tracking service aimed at compliance professionals. It combines a calendar of regulatory developments with news and analysis, "rulebooks" of existing and forthcoming legislation and country-by-country reference materials. It is often purchased as a global solution, though regional subsets are also available. A peer-to-peer "message board" is a particularly interesting feature.

Compliance in ContextKeeping track of regulatory changes in the area of risk and compliance is a key issue for many organisations, and a growing challenge.

Global information vendor Thomson Reuters says that the number of regulatory alerts worldwide rose 25% in 2012 to almost 18,000, and the first half of 2013 was averaging 85 regulatory alerts per day.

Compliance Complete from Thomson Reuters is an information service for compliance professionals which aims to take the pain out of tracking regulatory developments.

It combines a calendar of regulatory developments with news and analysis, “rulebooks” of existing and forthcoming legislation and country-by-country reference materials.

Building a Specialist GRC Business

Thomson Reuters has ambitions to build a substantial business in risk and compliance and has made a series of acquisitions in that area in recent years. The Compliance Complete product suite stems from its purchase of UK-based company Complinet in 2010, and is now part of its “Accelus” range of risk and compliance services.

In reviewing the product, FreePint was struck by the depth of specialist expertise both in the regulatory tracking summaries and in the regular daily analysis articles, produced by in-house Thomson Reuters regulatory experts.

Another interesting feature is a “message board”. In this area, users of the service can interact with their peers and seek answers to practical questions of the day. Users can post questions either under their own name or anonymously, and any user of the service can then respond. Compliance Complete editorial staff also sometimes start a discussion thread or respond to one.

The emphasis throughout Compliance Complete is on providing information which will be of practical, operational use. The message board is a striking illustration of this, as it allows practitioners to share very direct experience, within a controlled environment, of how they have responded to the challenges posed by compliance regulations.

FreePint will be publishing an article later in the year as part of its FreePint Topic Series: Compliance in Context, looking at different ways to track regulatory change. Meanwhile the FreePint Product Review of Thomson Reuters Compliance Complete sheds light on how this very well-known information provider is bringing its global reach and editorial expertise to bear on this rapidly evolving area. FreePint's recent interview with Andrew Neblett of Thomson Reuters explores the company's strategy and planned technology innovations in the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) area.
