Compliance in ContextThe final weeks of this year’s FreePint Topic Series: Compliance in Context are clearly demonstrating that we have saved some of the best until last. The FreePint Webinar, Understanding Compliance Products from the Inside Out, aired on 17 October and we continue to publish articles providing compliance practitioners and information specialists with in-depth information on a variety of topics.

Decoding Product Design

As Robin Neidorf explained in her introductory article What Goes Into Product Design? Focus on Compliance Tools, understanding how compliance tools are designed and which problems they are destined to meet can help you to use the tools more effectively.

The three expert panellists, Neil Farquhar from Bureau van Dijk, Tom Cosgrove from Alacra and Jorge Montana from Perfect Information, provided some fascinating insights into workflow design, their product development teams, the way they engage with customers and how they stay relevant in the fast-changing regulatory environment. A recording of the webinar is available here.

Article Insights

Recent articles focus on some of the specific legal and definition issues as well as providing overviews of key topics.

Matthew Baker and Victoria Brocklehurst of legal firm Berwin Leighton Paisner look at differences of approach to compliance between countries and jurisdictions in their article The Global Regulatory Environment: Regulatory Risks for Businesses. They outline key risks which compliance teams should consider, from extra-territoriality to the varying rules surrounding the marketing of products into different jurisdictions.

Victoria Meyer looked at the very specific issue of how to Combat Transcription Errors With Linguistic Identity Matching. Victoria focuses on the modern, linguistic approach to identity matching that has improved both the precision and the recall of compliance screening systems. She considers the different sources of variation in the ways identity details can be presented, and goes on to look at the most effective ways of addressing them.

Upcoming Articles

We continue to explore some of the key issues in compliance with Tom Brown’s upcoming article on Understanding Politically Exposed Persons and Their Associated Risks. The article looks at issues arising from the different definitions of Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) in different jurisdictions.

Also upcoming is Neil Marshal's article on the type of tools available to companies to help them manage their exposure to risk and meet their regulatory obligation in A Banking Utility Belt - A Brief Guide to Tools Available to Mitigate Risk.

Chris Porter will be reporting on how to ensure that your organisation is keeping abreast of changes in compliance regulation in Keeping Up To Date with Regulatory Changes. He will be looking at the do-it-yourself options and subscription products as well as the essential processes companies need to follow.

So keep reading and listening as there is plenty more need-to-know information coming up in the Series.
