Abstract

The FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise has so far included a number of articles and guides designed to help organisations be successful in their implementation of social tools. Among these was an excellent article from Steve Bynghall which provides guidance on governance, ownership and sponsorship, and ensuring there are clear business uses identified for the social tools.

FreePint Topic Series: The Social EnterpriseIn the next few weeks the FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise will look at specific techniques you can use to implement social tools effectively.

Why We All Need to Think Strategically

The use of social tools has grown massively over the last 10 years. However, whilst their use is ubiquitous in the consumer world, behind the firewall it's a different situation.

Some organisations are still unclear about how social tools should be used and in fact whether they should be using them at all.

In an article which encourages us to all think strategically, Richard Hare looks at some of the issues with trying to implement social tools and the benefits of using them. In What's the Problem with Enterprise Social?, Richard also provides some next steps for those organisations thinking about implementing social tools.

Can Gamification Really Work?

Applying game theory techniques and concepts to non-game activities, such as users completing profiles on enterprise social networks or completing tasks on intranets, certainly sounds interesting.

But is there really a place for gamification in the average workplace? In a soon to be published article Steve Bynghall will look at whether gamification is the right choice for your organisation.

Do Intranets Have a Role in the Social Enterprise?

The role the intranet plays within an organisation has changed significantly in the last five years.

From very static sites, which would be used to post policies and forms, intranets have developed into spaces where individuals could connect with colleagues, create content and collaborate.

The next few years are going to see intranets develop further, but what exactly does the next 12 months hold for them? In a soon to be published article I look at some of the themes which are actively being discussed in the intranet community.
