Item

I have chosen a mixture of favourite tipples to share ranging from the professionally essential to the socially useful:

  • Journal Usage Statistics Portal (JUSP): Statistics are at the core of Electronic Resources Management and JUSP is a useful tool that makes this task a lot more manageable. If you have an interest in the area of resources management then you should make time to familiarise yourself with JUSP and gain an overview of the reports available.
  • LIKE - London Information and Knowledge Exchange: I have been a member of this LinkedIn group for several years. They are usually held on the last Thursday of each month and interspersed with social events during the year. The usual format is an interactive and informative discussion on a relevant topic followed by further networking and debate over a usually very good meal. Events held have covered the spectrum of library specific as well as associated topics.
  • TED Talks: If you want an overview of the future or a concept explained, this is one of the best sites to visit. As its site explains, TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks lasting 18 minutes or less.
  • Library Conference Planner: This is one of my favourite library reference sites. I usually only refer to it two or three times a year - always just before the academic year is about to start. The tips are useful and conferences are now sub-divided into online/virtual, North America and international.

An article in FreePint which I found particularly interesting:

  • SharePoint 2013 - Using Social Features Effectively I have recently been informed that the University of East London (UEL) has a roadmap that includes the introduction of SharePoint. I have heard various anecdotal perspectives on SharePoint however have not as yet used it. Therefore I found this article to be both relevant as well as informative.

The summary of key pieces of functionality has given me a head start on which areas I will probably explore first. I am also in agreement with the observations on the buzz surrounding "digital natives". I followed the links to further reading and I found these too to be relevant and well chosen. Overall I found this to be a good article that I have saved for reference and will share with colleagues.
