Someone from one of the vendors we use recently commented that I have more hats than most - because in my organisation I am the contact for information services, knowledge management and IT.

I'm sure that the same applies to other information professionals and I don't pretend to be an expert in all of those fields, but these areas are all represented in "My Favourite Tipples".

I work for a large global law firm where I am responsible for the information needs of all the lawyers in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

I therefore have to have my fingers in lots of pies in lots of countries and trying to keep abreast of new developments is an ongoing challenge.

  • Gurteen Knowledge: I follow David Gurteen on Twitter and via his Gurteen Knowledge newsletter with my knowledge hat on as he usefully picks up and comments on KM developments around the world. He also has a knowledge community group on LinkedIn. In particular I like his (knowledge) "Quotes of the Day" which always get my day off to a good start.

  • Bernard Marr via SlideShare: Bernard Marr recently spoke about big data at the Perfect Information conference and for the first time I felt that I was beginning to grasp what big data was all about and how it might be applicable to me. He has very helpfully put some slides on this and other management topics on SlideShare which I find a helpful collaborative tool.

  • Oanda: My work responsibilities are such that I have to produce annual budgets in six different currencies so I am always needing to convert. Oanda is very easy to use, covers every country in the world and has the benefit of being able to check historic currency rates as well.

  • TimeandDate.com: As our offices are spread around the world this site is very helpful. Trying to plan meetings with staff across the globe is tricky and the "Meeting Planner" element of this site proves very useful

For fun:

  • My interest in foreign countries extends way beyond work and TripAdvisor is where I always turn to when researching hotels, restaurants and interesting things to do on my travels.
