Intelligence systems - beyond awareness to actionWhat are the current trends and best practices for provision of current awareness services? How satisfied are information managers with tools, sources and value measurement? What changes do they anticipate in the next two years?

These are some of the questions at the heart of the Jinfo Survey "Trends in current awareness 2018", now open for participation.

If you are part of an information team that:

  • Licenses content and/or software to meet current awareness needs and/or
  • Provides current awareness services (e.g. newsletters, alerts, curated feeds)

... please take 20 minutes today to complete the survey. Your responses are anonymised, but if you provide an email address at the end of the survey, you will receive a copy of the results when published in September.

Are we "beyond awareness"?

This year's iteration of the research remains focused on understanding the services that most information teams still provide: current awareness, often delivered through email newsletters. However, we are seeing increasing interest in what Jinfo categorises as "intelligence systems", which are intended to enable multi-dimensional interactions with news information, and go far beyond traditional "news" to incorporate internal documents as well.

In our preliminary research with both information managers and industry suppliers, we also see emphasis on leveraging advanced technologies, such as AI, to improve discovery, insight and the user experience.

These factors have prompted me to ask, "Are we beyond 'awareness'?" I will be analysing survey results to explore this question.

Be sure to contribute your opinions, perspectives and even suggestions through the Jinfo Survey "Trends in current awareness 2018" - participate today.
