Editorial

Robin NeidorfAs director of research, one of the things I most enjoy is the opportunity to reflect on and discuss with others what we've learned through different projects. I think of this as the "proving" stage: how well do our observations hold up against reality and the practical needs of today's organisations?

Recently, we've articulated FreePint's overarching research agenda - three central concepts that we feel are consistent risks and challenges across organisations of all sizes and in all industries:

  1. We must find ways to break down barriers between information services and information technology

  2. The bulk of information work now takes place on the desktop rather than with specialists in an information centre

  3. We're in the midst of enormous changes around consumption of information and the value derived from it.

We shared these big issues during a lively Communities of Practice session at the SLA Annual Conference in Boston, which you can read about here. And if you find yourself nodding as you read any or all of these statements, I invite you to engage with and contribute to our further development of this agenda:

... but most importantly, talk to us. Let your account manager know what articles and reports you need us to produce to support your management of today's risks and planning for future successes. Use our contact form to ask questions and share suggestions.

Reach out to me directly at robin.neidorf@freepint.com -- there's nothing more rewarding than discussing with you how our research makes a difference in your world.

Director of Research, FreePint
