[Research Focus: Content and Technology for Current Awareness]

Description

One of the key findings from a previous Community session,"The Information Team with the 'Right Stuff'", was the need for information professionals to transpose their current skills to new contexts. Not only will this help them remain employable over time, it will also ensure their value and experience can help organisations navigate emerging challenges and opportunities.

With data analytics fast becoming one of the biggest areas that information professionals - and organisations - need to get to grips with, this crossover Community session is our bridge from the Research Focus on "Content and Technology for Current Awareness" to our next Research Focus, running from October - December 2016, looking at data analytics and the opportunities it holds for information services and professionals.

Ask the Right Questions to Help Tackle the New World of Data Analytics

Working with our customers, we're increasingly hearing that data analytics is one of the anxiety-causing "Great Unknown" areas, in much the same way as mobile was six or seven years ago.

Questions that are being asked include:

  • How do the skills of an information professional fit in the world of data analytics, and add value?
  • What are the full range of skills needed on our team?
  • How do we help our stakeholders understand how our niche skill set can benefit the organisation, as it tackles data analytics?
  • How do we balance moving into this emerging direction with the need to keep up with our current, business-as-usual demands?

The answers to these questions are unique to each organisation depending on its structure, culture of collaboration, risk appetite, and range of existing resources.

During this Community session, we'll be walking through the questions you need to be asking so that you can develop a strategic plan that works in your environment.

We'll also hear from participants about their own experiences so far in working with data analytics teams, what skills they've found to be useful, and challenges they've faced.

Community sessions are open to licensed users on a Jinfo Subscription with the Community option added. When your registration is approved, you will receive details to sign in to the teleconference.
