Understanding the full scope of sources for current awareness
Jinfo Webinar
13th September 2016
[Research Focus: Content and Technology for Current Awareness]
Description
Current awareness no longer just means keeping track of external news. With content generated internally, information from multiple databases and systems, and non-traditional news sources becoming increasingly widespread within organisations, the breadth of sources used to feed current awareness is expanding.
Consequently, information professionals need to evolve their understanding of what constitutes a source. This will help ensure that their expertise is brought to bear on this fuller definition of current awareness, which in turn will fuel the value that internal customers are obtaining from the information centre's services and knowledge.
Moving Beyond the News to Task-Based Goals
As part of our Research Focus, "Content and Technology for Current Awareness", this webinar takes a look at this broader landscape of what constitutes a 'source', to aid information professionals in the continuing evolution of their current awareness approach.
An essential element in this expanded view of current awareness is to put yourself in your users' shoes.
While information professionals have traditionally equated current awareness with news delivery, users are more concerned with what happens after they receive the delivery.
What actions can the information received help them to take? Or, conversely, what information do they need in order to take action? Are there outputs from internal knowledge flows? Updates from competitors' websites or social media accounts? Data from client relationship management systems?
This Jinfo Webinar provides practical tips on:
- Identifying what constitutes a source for current awareness
- Consulting with users to draw out actions they can take from current awareness
- Working with other departments to identify internal sources.
Webinars are open to licensed users on a Jinfo Subscription. Spaces are limited.
