Euromonitor http://www.euromonitor.com has issued its latest series of reports. Of these, one is noteworthy for information professionals who are interested in the consumer market. 25 Global Consumer Trends 2008 covers market performance, indicates growth sectors, and identifies market and brand leaders. Given the anxiety about the state of consumer markets worldwide this report seems particularly timely covering, as it does, concerns over food prices and unemployment. But this report is not just about economics. It has a section on ‘Identity, Self-Expression and Happiness’ and it identifies four key trends – climate change, obesity, income, and population growth. It looks at our connectedness through technology, whether through social networks, how we use our mobile phones, or even who is using our identity. The report includes a review of consumer trends in the main markets (Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Russia, UK and the US). It concludes with some trends to watch, including how much we spend on ready meals and lager, and considers what the future holds: recession, stagflation, or time for a new economy? Other new reports published in June include Big World: Impact of the Obesity Pandemic on Global Marketing Strategies; Consumer Eastern Europe; Consumer International; and, Consumer Western Europe. Another new service from Euromonitor is its International Podcast Series – Globalcast. Information professionals are increasingly adding podcasts to their Intranets or to their research portals. Globalcast provides interviews and discussions with Euromonitor’s industry analysts. The first podcast is from Senior Research Analyst Brian Morgan and he talks about rising commodity costs, the Mars/Wrigley merger, and Japanese confectionery products.
