Since taking over the new role of Product Reviews Editor for VIP last month, I've had a busy few weeks. I've been firming up the vendors and reviewers for the next few issues, as well as prioritizing the long list of vendors on our internal 'wish list' of products to review. A big part of prioritization involves reading comments at the Bar and on LiveWire to make sure we understand the questions and issues that our readers are most interested in, so first off, thanks for your participation in all of our online forums. Prior to moving into this role at VIP - and continuing now, albeit on a smaller scale - I did a lot of research and reporting for various information industry publications on the role of social media in business. I'm fascinated with Web 2.0 tools that encourage contribution and collaboration, and particularly in how enterprises are putting them to good use within their organisations. So it struck me as I was finalising our list of upcoming reviews: most of them are information industry stalwarts. Of course those big players are using Web 2.0 technologies and updating their products on a near-constant basis, and reviews of those tools and products are of high interest to our readers. But I'm curious to know whether VIP readers might not also like to learn more about new and emerging social media tools as they relate to enterprises in the information industry? I'm thinking about companies like LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com), ConnectBeam (http://www.connectbeam.com), and GroupSwim (http://www.groupswim.com) - companies that are built from the ground up as enterprise social media solutions. They may not be big enough to merit a full VIP review yet, but we still want to keep you informed. In the coming months we'll be trying a 'mini-review' format, as Udo Hohlfeld test drives Qitera's real time collaboration and social search platform (http://www.qitera.com/corp). What other Web 2.0 products would you like to see us put under the microscope, socially speaking? Email me your thoughts at nancy.daviskho@freepint.com, or drop them in our virtual suggestion box at (http://www.vivavip.com/suggestionbox.html). I'll look forward to hearing from you!
