Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)
Internal and external social tools are a standard part of information work today, but we're still getting a handle on how to make them work effectively. Recent commentary from contributing editors gives us more to think about with regard to:
- LinkedIn: what's the impact of the new "follow" feature, and its changing competitive role in the recruitment market?
- Yammer: is it fulfilling its promise of enabling social connections via SharePoint?
Privacy and data protection are ongoing concerns, particularly when international markets and users are involved. Building policies from a user-centred perspective may offer a new way of thinking about what's needed with regard to privacy. Meanwhile, organisations strive for balance between data protection and the need for government oversight.
The FreePint Topic Series: What You Need to Know Your Customer (KYC) continues, with a thought-provoking article on turning regulatory requirements into opportunities to improve business, and a summary of free resources to support compliance. Also on offer: an overview of the myriad ways information professionals are a critical resource in compliance initiatives of all kinds.
If you haven't yet done so, complete your free registration for notification of new resources as they're available.
Product and vendor coverage is always of interest. Recently added:
- Product Review of LexisNexis Company Dossier
- Q&A with ProQuest about its acquisition of Pi2, a new addition to its pharmaceutical and biomedical collection
- Source Update on Factiva.
Upcoming Content
New FreePint Webinars have been announced:
- Source Expertise and Your Value to the Business
- It's Not Just About "News" -- One Global Firm's Unique Decision to Go Beyond
- Technology to Support Business Strategy.
The next FreePint Topic Series: News, and Beyond, officially launches 1st October. We've developed two "streams" of content:
- News as part of current awareness
- News as a research resource.
Both streams offer a robust slate of articles, reports, interviews, case studies, product reviews and opportunities for exploring critical trends in a changing field.
If you haven't yet done so, register your interest in this series, and you'll immediately get our preview report, "Newsgathering - to Infinity and Beyond", plus notification of new resources as they're added to the series.
Community
The popular in-person Communities of Practice (CoP) session "Determining, Discussing and Measuring Value" ran in the Boston suburbs last month and is now scheduled for Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago and Amsterdam in October.
We're also developing a new CoP on value, as part of the FreePint Topic Series: News, and Beyond, with a focus on variables for measuring value of news services. It's currently planned for London and Amsterdam, with other cities to come, and a teleconference version will also be scheduled starting in October, so please watch for it.
Buyers and sellers of information products and services can discuss a topic of mutual interest: how to make premium content more visible and useful to end users. This confidential buyer-seller discussion is now scheduled for London in October, and a New York date in November is in the works. Seats are strictly limited, so if you're interested in these, be sure to register as soon as dates are announced.
Consulting
We're working with two customers on bespoke versions of "Determining, Discussing and Measuring Value" - one is focusing primarily on the upcoming budget season, and the other has a longer-term goal for repositioning information services alongside the organisation's new five-year plan.
Another customer has asked for assistance with its selection and evaluation of technology providers to support delivery of news content to end users as part of an "awareness" stream.
If you've got a question not answered directly through our content or Communities of Practice, consider our consulting options. Contact our director of research, Robin Neidorf, at robin.neidorf@freepint.com with questions.
