The current landscape for web-scale discovery services

Jinfo recently conducted a survey to assess how corporate information professionals understand and use discovery services. In this third article about the research results, we look at services respondents are currently using or evaluating to meet their users’ needs for discovery. The survey results show that, despite some ambivalence about the capabilities of current technologies to fully address user needs, corporate information managers are moving forward with evaluation and deployment of web-scale delivery services.

Reviewer Helen Josephine covers the products background and potential user groups, including those not familiar with the features of LaTeX. She considers the key features and potential uses of the software by technical teams, laboratories, software and hardware manufacturers and other industries which produce technical articles and archive internal documents.

What "discovery" means to corporate information managers

Over the last few years, the meaning of the term "discovery services" has changed, causing uncertainty for information professionals. To add to the confusion, the meaning also varies within different contexts. To gain some clarity, Jinfo carried out a survey earlier this year, inviting information professionals to comment on how they understand the term and this, first of four articles, looks at some of the results of this.
