Not only can enterprise content management help you work more efficiently – it’s also environmentally friendly. That at any rate is the verdict of Gartner, in a recent report Enterprise Content Management Strategies for Green IT. Only one per cent of archived documents are ever accessed when they’re on paper, Gartner claims http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=853313 whereas electronic storage not only allows for more efficient retrieval using metadata, but also avoids the heating and cooling costs associated with archiving paper, so it’s greener. And when it comes to effective web-based content management, Gartner gives top rating to Interwoven, the specialist in technologies for managing human interaction with content, currently being acquired by Autonomy. Autonomy's Meaning Based Computing technologies, known as IDOL, with their ability to understand content, will mesh well with Interwoven's content management capabilities. ‘Interwoven's products know what the customer interactions are, and Autonomy's IDOL will allow them to know what they mean,’ Autonomy says. And with over 4,600 customers worldwide, using technology powering 100,000 corporate databases http://digbig.com/4yfka Interwoven will also bring a valuable boost to Autonomy’s customer base. Autonomy is already a well known name among information managers, embedded as it is within a range of information products. Reviewing the Euromoney Business Library in VIP last year http://web.vivavip.com/go/vip/54 Mark Jewell commented that its conceptual search capabilities, made possible by Autonomy technology, meant that its search results could include not only articles with the keywords a searcher selected but also alternatives with a similar meaning. Watch out for Autonomy technology to turn up in an ever greater range of applications from now on.
