Abstract

FreePint last reviewed online media monitoring service Eureka.cc from Canadian-based CEDROM-SNi in 2010. There have been interesting new developments in the intervening three years, including the launch of the Analytik module for media analysis, new source additions, and new functionality allowing users to add references to documents residing outside the platform - both public web-based documents and an organisation’s internal documents.

Item

Beyond AggregationThe launch of the Analytik module in 2012 expanded the scope of Eureka.cc from a media database to an end-to-end media monitoring and analysis tool. Analytik is an optional additional module which provides high-level analyses of media coverage by a wide range of factors such as type of media, sentiment, time, coverage etc. It is available for customers of both Eureka.cc and its French/European equivalent Europresse.com.

Sources Soar & Content Broadens

The number of sources on the core Eureka.cc database has increased from around 3,500 to around 10,000 since the last review. Key strength remains Canadian and French sources, but it has increased content from other countries, such as the US. The vendor has stated that international content, particularly from emerging economies, is a focus for content development. Another core emphasis is the expansion of access to full original TV and radio content with the addition of more stations.

Focus on Customisation, Collation & Collaboration

A major new development has been the ability for users to add their own documents to news folders – which can then be used to store, share or publish information. News folders were originally used to group content which users imported from the core database, but users are now able to also import sources residing outside the platform (either on the web or internal servers) to the Eureka.cc content.

This provides greater flexibility for customisation and as an example would allow a researcher to collate information from a diverse range of sources in one platform, sharing and publishing content in a streamlined manner.

Getting Ever More Social

The vendor has also expanded access to social media content. As well as a selected number of tweets in the core Eureka.cc content, a new optional module allows uses to pull in content from Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube by setting up saved searches which port content into the product as it is generated.
