Since my current role of director, Knowledge and Research Services at Cargill's InfoCenter gives me an opportunity to work in a wide variety of areas, I guess it makes sense that I regularly read an eclectic mix of things. Key interest areas at present are: knowledge management (KM), innovation, and business process improvement.

  • Twitter: My Twitter feeds are split between the topics of Indiana University Basketball and KM/information management. Here are a few of the professional feeds I follow, if you want my IU Basketball list you'll have to contact me directly:

    • David Gurteen @DavidGurteen – thought provoking ideas about effective application of KM tools and principles

    • Nicco Mele @nicco – I heard him speak at KM World last fall, he's a futurist and author of "The End of Big"

    • Jill Strand @jillinfopro – SLA 2014 president elect.

E-news I follow for both inspiration and advice:

The above resources are free.

  • SLA Information Outlook: I do also regularly read SLA's Information Outlook, which I receive as an SLA member. Information Outlook keeps me grounded in what is happening in the information profession.

And, of course, I read FreePint articles!  Recently, I've enjoyed the FreePint Topic Series: Beyond Aggregation, particularly "Introducing the Acquired Content Adviser" and "From Content Cost to Value:  the Rise of the Content Adviser". These defined - in terms of business value - a role most information centres have played for years and which is growing in importance as the cost and complexity of subscription content rises.

Editor's Note

My Favourite Tipples have long proved popular. Tipplers from a variety of industries and professions within the information industry offer an insight into the online resources and FreePint content they find most useful for work - and sometimes for leisure too.
