Abstract
Jinfo conducted a survey in March-April of 2017, inviting information professionals to comment on how they understand the term discovery services. The research involved open-ended interviews, a survey and follow-up interviews with more than 40 organisations with the largest respondent pool representing pharma and biotech, electronics and engineering, and chemistry and material sciences.
The report covers:
- What the phrase "discovery services" means to respondents
- The types of tools and systems associated with discovery systems
- The primary functions associated with discovery systems
- User needs around discovery
- Cross-disciplinary, specialised content and other variables
- Integration with other systems
- Why some organisations are not pursuing discovery systems
- The most important capabilities of discovery systems
- Perceptions of web-scale discovery services and broad groupings
- How discovery technologies address user needs for discovery
- Deployment of web-scale discovery services
- Complementary systems and tools such as enterprise content services, link resolvers and data analysis tools.
