Newsletter 644

3rd September 2026

Anja ThygesenThroughout the first half of this year, we have explored AI from different perspectives - from licensed content and training to information teams and stakeholder expectations.

A common thread has emerged:

"The conversation is moving from what AI means for information professionals, to where it can make a practical difference."

AI is changing the conversations information professionals are having with their stakeholders - and creating opportunities to engage earlier and more proactively.

Our new report "Stakeholder engagement and AI – How information managers can create value in an AI-enabled organisation" takes this further, asking a fundamental question:

"We have AI. Why do we still need an information function?"

The answer ultimately comes back to helping organisations make better decisions.

AI use cases

This autumn, we’re taking the next step: from understanding the impact of AI, to identifying practical AI use cases.

We want to understand what information professionals and managers are already doing with AI, and identify use cases that could improve day-to-day work.

Please participate in our short AI use case poll to help us understand how you are using AI and what you would like to be using AI for in future. All participants will receive a summary of the results:

As part of our research, the community session in September will focus on "AI use cases in information management". In October, we'll move on to how promising use cases can be put into practice in "From AI use cases to implementation".

The stakeholder engagement report, and poll on AI use cases, builds on the AI themes we’ve explored throughout the year.

For a quick overview of our recent Subscription content and how the different areas of research connect, see our blog "All recent Subscription content".

I hope you had a good summer break. We're looking forward to an autumn focused on turning the AI conversation into practical applications.

"AI use cases in information management"
22nd September 2026
Jinfo Community

AI is moving from experimentation to practical application.

But which AI use cases offer the greatest value for information teams and information managers?

In this session, we'll discuss:

  • Which information management challenges AI could help address
  • The AI use cases information managers see as most valuable
  • Where organisations are already applying AI - and where opportunities remain.

Join the discussion to compare priorities with your peers and identify practical opportunities for applying AI within your own information function.

"From AI use cases to implementation"
22nd October 2026
Jinfo Community

How do you turn an AI use case into a practical solution?

In this session, we'll take one or two of the highest-priority use cases identified in our research, and explore how they could be implemented in practice.

Together we'll examine:

  • Practical implementation approaches
  • Available tools and solution options
  • Governance and organisational considerations
  • Lessons learned from organisations already putting AI into practice.

The session is designed to move beyond theory, giving you practical examples, peer insights, and ideas you can apply within your own organisation.
