Just recently, our production editor Catherine Dhanjal pointed out to me that our publishing calendar has been slightly manic lately. We looked together at the report our content management system provides on published content and discovered that in the trailing 30 days, we'd published 26% more content than in the previous 30 days.

That's a lot of additional articles and reports, and the volume is due in no small part to two concurrent FreePint Topic Series this month:

  • Compliance in Context: produced by Andrew Lucas, providing insight, product reviews and researcher tips regarding regulatory compliance. My personal recent favourite in this series is Victoria Meyers' fascinating article on linguistic matching. When you're trying to track down and document your relationship with a person whose name is written with a different alphabet, how do your information tools and search techniques take into account differences in transliteration? This is critical stuff for anyone involved with compliance, but also incredibly helpful for anyone undertaking research with a global perspective.

  • Beyond Aggregation: produced by Andrew Grave, explores products, approaches and changing organisational needs around news awareness. We've got in-depth reviews of two unique products - Meltwater News and Buzz, and M-Adaptive - both incorporating traditional and social news sources but tackling them from very different angles. Plus Claire Whayman's market map of news aggregation providers is "must read" for anyone trying to make sense of today's myriad choices for news awareness.

That's just a taste of the recent explosion of content. We've also been running multiple sessions of our Community of Practice (CoP) calls on the current changes in news aggregation, a terrific webinar on authoritative analysis of news content, and another on product development of compliance tools. You can read more about these sessions and request free access to the recordings.

Upcoming Series

But there's always more we have planned. November will see the publication of the results of our FreePint Survey: News Needs & Preferences 2013, as well as additional webinars within the "Beyond Aggregation" Topic Series. If you haven't yet done so, please register your interest and be notified when these open up for registration.

Future FreePint Communities of Practice will take a closer look at topics like text mining and product licensing, as well as international copyright challenges.

And as for FreePint Topic Series planned for 2014? I'm terribly excited to work with producers on the following:

  • The Social Enterprise
  • Next-Generation Competitive Intelligence
  • Copyright Symposium
  • Licensing and Pricing

These are all meaty, relevant, challenging areas in which your skills and experience can provide important value to your organisations. FreePint will cover the technology, content and human elements of each of them, providing you with insight and tools you need to help your organisations identify and meet business goals. We'll keep working on research, content, webinars and CoPs that reflect your priorities and inputs.

Don't miss any of it. If your organisation doesn't yet have a FreePint Subscription, start the conversation today by completing our online form.
