Newsletter 635

4th December 2025

Stephen PhillipsHere at Jinfo, we believe there are three "whys" that underpin the value that information teams provide to their organisations:

  • make money
  • save money
  • mitigate risk.

We're currently focussing on mitigating risk, and know of one organisation that has over 250,000 third-parties. Another has over 1,000 staff working on due diligence and integrity research.

So with all that potential financial, commercial and reputational damage, why are information teams rarely involved in the work?

Read our new report, which contains practical advice on how information teams can step up:

Another risk is inaccuracy of GenAI news search results.

This has been explored in a recent 100-page BBC and European Broadcast Union (EBU) report, which found that 45% of news searches done using GenAI platforms contained at least one significant issue.

We've summarised the BBC/EBU report, and added practical actions for information managers:

Whilst many organisations are still experimenting with GenAI, we recently came across a well developed use case for the technology - BASF QKnows.

In this month's Community session, Stephan Ballenweg, BASF Head of Knowledge Systems, will walk through key milestones in the development of QKnows.

He'll share strategies for stakeholder buy-in, cooperation, use-cases, justification and GenAI adoption:

Our forthcoming sessions look at "Team demand and AI" (22nd January 2026) and "Team roles and AI" (26th February 2026).

Matchplat is a new player that builds company lists combining AI with code-based searching. We've enjoyed accessing the beta product, and have produced a detailed report and product demo:

We're delighted to announce that Jinfo has won the inaugural "McFarlane and Ward Information Management Award" from CILIP.

We are very grateful to Karen McFarlane and Sandra Ward for setting up this award, and our colleagues in the Knowledge and Information Management group for naming Jinfo as its first winner.

We have an exciting year lined up for 2026, so if you have budget left over, and aren't yet a Jinfo subscriber, then explore the value of a Jinfo Subscription.

Have a relaxing and enjoyable seasonal break.

Here is some feedback from a recent Jinfo Community session from attendees:

"This was my first Jinfo Community call – I found the relaxed and friendly atmosphere very welcoming. There was a great line up of brands and companies on the call too, which was really impressive."

"I think the format you pick to illustrate ways to respond to vendor demands is a great way to present these techniques."
